Good news - My alternator is finally sending the right charge to the battery and i am getting 14.3v across the battery, yay.
More good news - i have nearly finished all the wiring for the car.
Hazard problem - I have connected my hazard switch as per this diagram:

but i can get them to work. The relay clicks once when i flick the switch (halfords 3 pin hazard jobbie) but i get no lights. Indicators work fine
though. Any idea's what i have done wrong?
so what was up with the alternator/wiring?
I had connected it to the wrong pin
I wired it the way you said when my plug came yesterday and it works!
Don't rule out a dodgy left hand stalk unit that includes the hazard assy if you're using sierra switch gear as they are a known weak spot,
I'm on my 2nd now. Tell tale is keep clicking the hazard switch with the indicators on and sometimes the indicators will fail to work, continue
to press the hazard switch and indicators start working again.
Cheers

sounds silly but make sure your indicator is not on when using the hazard switch. Depending on switch hear age it may feed back and not work fully. Just a thought.
Indicator switch wasn't connected as it would only work indicating left
Have had to buy a new one on fleabay
