hi all,im building a mev sonic kit car using the focus st170 engine and loom.
just noticed that although i have the chipped key and ecu i dont seem to have the transponder part.that the loom plugs into.(green 4 pin plug)engine
and loom came from a breakers.
what are my options?
i would like to get the wiring stripped to bare minimum just to run the engine as the cars for track use only.no lights etc.can you recommend a
company that can do this or am i better getting a different loom/ecu.
the car has 3 looms all connected together and 95% is not needed.any advice appreciated.
Any transponder will work, just go down the scrappy and take one off the ignition barrel.

had a go at trying to strip the loom of all the unnecessary junk but gave up .too many wires spliced into multiple others.dont want to make things
worse.the looms weigh a ton.
if your in the southeast i have a friend that will sort the wiring if your interested.
are you looking to use the standard ECU? if so may be easier to get it running on the standard loom first and then trying to remove surless wires as you say there are numerious spliced connections remove one wrong wire and it will be a pain to trace, however if going for aftermarket ECU loom seems lots easier
hi , i live in hamilton scotland so too far away thanks.my kit car maker does a kit himself but wants approx £500 for a small box containing 4
relays which does away with the larger standard relay/fuse box plus still left with most of looms and some say needs further work in protecting from
elements.
what options do i have by going for a non standard ecu and any recommmendations for doing the work.how much are we talking.

thanks for that.that wiring diagram looks easy to follow.
i take it there isnt an off the shelf ecu/loom thats a direct replacement for the focus zetec then.
i think i will try and get engine running with standard loom then if everything is ok start removing wires one at a time then rechecking.
is the emerald ecu worth the extra money. over the other one.
st170 engine requires clocks and key to run, also they use a a ecu controlled fuel system only a fuel feed no return, the car will not run on a stock ecu unless all that is there and working,
i believe the stock ECU includes standard imobiliser hence as above loom would be required to run with standard ECU, however megasquirt and Emerald/Omex (and others) replacement ECU's will replace/bypass all these. the question is DIY megasquirt is cheaper option but requires some knowledge/reading to set up, where as emerald/Omex you pay the extra for someone else with the knowledge to do it for you (im going the emerald route)

beaver you are 100% correct.i have the original clocks.i think you need an l.e.d. light wired in if not using original clocks as immobiliser looks
for this.
i will try and get car to run first.only problem is i need a small trailer to carry all the extra wire.at the moment.
