would like to know from those in the know (running after-market ecu) which you have gone for and the pro's and cons of your choice? ign+fuel inj systems on 4 cyl engines. cheers

GMPMotorsport - 22/1/10 at 08:10 PM

run an MBE 967 in the saxo, although I have someone to set it up for me.

Ran the GEMs ignition only and a set of twin 40's on a zetec no real problems

i would use what the person mapping it recommends and know best, no pint having all the gear and the person setting it up dosnt know how to get the best from it

ive had this problem and learnt the hard way

daniel mason - 22/1/10 at 10:28 PM

but what if one is for eg £300 cheaper?
i do understand what you mean though. it will be going to damian at daytuner but will be at least a year as have not even sold my current mnr yet!

scootz - 22/1/10 at 11:07 PM

What does Damien at Daytuner recommend? That's probably your best starting point...

i have spoken to marc nordon and he said he likes mbe as they are nice and simple to install and have lots of features, i like the emerald which has a dash mounted programmable screen to alter maps at push of button.

I love MoTeC stuff but it tend to be a bit overkill for anything but serious competition.

i like the price of Magasquirt, but dont feel i have the time, knowledge or desire to set it up, ok if it runs straight out of the box but if not i would be stumped. so im looking at a Emerald ECU at £650 ish as its only 10miles down the road, its about £300 more to have them map it on RR.

if you have a basic set up eg zetec and willing to learn there is plenty of info about on megasquirt and can be a good saving and experiance knowing you have done it,

When I installed my Emerald ECU I managed to get it up and running with no drama's . It's easy to set the mixture using a narrow band Lambda sensor and the on screen graphics . Ignition is a bit more involved but Dave Walker is very helpful and knows his onions and will install a base map if you let him know what engine / injection set up you are running. Managed to get the mixture set up very close but I found it easier to have a passenger operate the laptop
