Hazards working but inicators flash all 4 lights too
FFTS - 25/1/10 at 12:06 AM

Rewiring and reswitching my new dash. The hazards had an illuminated rocker switch and is being replaced with a savage hazard switch.

The problem is now ive wired it in the hazards work fine but the indicators activate all 4 lights too.

The indicators are on the existing on/off/on toggle switch. The hazards rocker has 6 internal contacts, 2 top ones to each pair of front & back indicators, below left live feed from relay when ignition off, right of that link to LED, 2 below these are empty and bottom 2 seem to get linked when switch is off.

Any ideas

Are you using the same relay for the indicators and the hazards?

this is how i wired mine using a savage switch and using the same relay for both

I would think it would have to be something to do with the hazard switch wiring. Mine is only a 3 pin switch wired like this:

If have wired it as bigfoot4616, if you disconnect the bottom number 2 on the diagram, your indicators should work properly. If they do, it will be to do with the switch wiring, if not, then its just proof that i know sod all about electrics

There are two relays, one a Halfords 3 pin and the other a 2 pin. The 2 pin seems to operate the Hazards. When I switch the hazards on and they flash if I then short together the bottom two wires from the plug they continue flashing but you can hear the indicator relay clicking too.

There has to be a way as the existing 6 contact rocker worked and the savage is a 6 contact double throw switch so the problem lies with where I've wired the contacts up to I guess. I'm just trying to avoid doing a fresh rewire to a system that already worked.

I Butchered the rocker switch to break up and nick the pins out of so I could solder them to 6 inch wires to go to the switch and plug them into the loom rocker plug instead of cutting the plug off and putting crimp joints in. Trouble is now I cant look at the internals of the switch to see what makes contact with what when on and off.

Does anyone have a similar spare switch they could open up and post photo on here or explain what needs to be switched between which contacts.

P.S. If it helps I have 2 dash indicator warning lights to show left and right.

as your using separate relays ignore my diagram then.
you could do with putting up a diagram showing how you've wired it

I didnt wire it.. It was already done when I bought the car so Im trying to trace through the loom what goes to where. As I said it was all working until removing the rocker so its just trying to find what are the equivelent pins of the original rocker and the savage.

I have used the 2 pin relay for my indicators and the 3 pin for the hazards. My 3 pin is also an electronic one.

i think you will need to trace and identify all the wires and then take it from there. as it worked before if you post up what wires you have going where we should be able to work out how it was wired.
