Oil guage works backwards!! Help
FFTS - 28/1/10 at 11:18 AM

This problem was already there before I redid my whole dash. Oil gauge goes up to the top when ignition switched on and then moves down with the engine started and more with revs. Tried connecting the gauge different ways (3 wires) one = nothing, the other stays at the bottom until first revg them goes to the top and stays there. There is a fat black, thin black and thin red wire.

Any suggestion?

Which sender have you used? does it have 2 terminals? I ask as it sounds like you have connected your gauge to the oil wanring light. and not the gauge sender

This is just a guess but assuming its not the original gauge to what your engine would have had originally, i would think it is due to the resistance it works with abit like fuel gauges that come in (i think) about 100 and 510 ohms.

May be completely wrong though

Ermm dont know the answer to that. I bought the car built. Its a ZX9R so definitely new gauges when built.

As I said.. it DOES work.. just in reverse (and before anyone says drive backwards.. I cant hehe)

well, serves you right for buying a BEC...

as said, sounds like the wrong sender for the gauge. did i see you have revotec gauges? i'd suggest getting a new oil pressure sender from the same manufacturer as the gauge

click

Would the sender be an engine specific fit or generic? If it will fit in a zx9r then I'll get one.

the sender itself is generic.
might be worth a call to rally design (or whoever you decide to buy from) to check the thread on the sender, and the thread on your engine.

Hello

The sender should look like this:

http://www.revotec.com/details.asp?ID=286

if it doesn't then it's the wrong sender for the gauge

and the instructions look like this:

http://www.caigauge.com/page19.html
