It may just be me but i never think wiring looks tidy. Does anyone have any pics of how their behind dash wiring looks so i can see whether mine is
ok?
I was going to post pics but cant find the card for my camera .
I have used conduit for the area's that it may be possible to come into contact with (under footwells) but all other area's behind the dash
are just cable tied together.
During my SVA one of the things I failed on was untidy wiring. To pass I had to have the wires behind the dash really neat and tidy with all wires
covered in cable protecter and secure with no exposed wiring at any point. Look at the wiring loom on your tin top that is how it should look.

This is how mine started out, then the bunches were covered in split conduit and secured to the ally plate with OEM style harness holders that push
through a hole and hold it fast, P clips will do just as good a job though.
With under dash wiring, its not a fashion parade, its more of a safety and reliability issue. My main concerns were reducing the likelyhood of
chafing, minimising movement which can result in joints / wires breaking = head scratching moments at the side of the road.
It is good advice to have a little more wire than you need and you can securely tie up the excess rather then have to pull your harness tight over
edges and round corners which will just give rise the the potential for the above issues ot occur.
One thing i would always look at when buying a kit or a part builtproject that has the wiring installed is the quality of the installation, I think
it says a lot about the rest of the build.
After all Kit cars have a terrible reliabitily issue as a whole on the electrical side compared to production vehicles and these sorts of electrical
gremlins can make for an unenjoyable kit car owning experience.
My first F27 was bodged in the wiring department and after 2 years of lights flickering on and off, headlights sometimes working, guages with a mind
of their own i had a mate rip it all out and rewire it. It totally transformed my owning/driving pleaseure fo the vehicle.
In my R1 GTS build it took me 6 weeks to wire it, mainly because i knew nothing about wiring and taught myself along the way. But it was done right
and everything worked as it should and i was confident in it continuing that way, that left me free to concentrate on driving the car rather than
keeping an eye out for something not working or going up in smoke!

I made this and tied all the wiring to the back of it the when the scuttle went over it was sandwiched between this new upright wall and the skuttle,
nice and neat and sva man couldn't get anywhere near!
More pictures on page 4 of my gallery.

My first attempt was pretty untidy as I'd moved things and spliced in things over the years, so last year I rewired the car. The end result is
(i think) very tidy, and makes finding the right wire much easier, especially when adding new circuits etc.
Mine's not gone on fire yet!
It was abit tidyer before the dash went in tho lol

Sure everyone's done it at some point!
I asked on the Dashboard Pics Threads a while ago, no replies.....
Maybe a good idea to have these pics on the same thread....
