Where to buy wire for a loom
iti_uk - 6/4/10 at 05:38 PM

Hi,
Fairly self-explanatory thread, this - I'm after a load of wire, all different colours, with which to make a loom.

I've checked the bay for wire, and found a shop selling 5m lengths of 8A (1mm^2) wire for around £4. I'm wandering if there is anywhere else I can check for this sort of stuff? Anyone know of anywhere cheap?

Since I'm making a full body loom for an MX5, I need enough different colours to cover the following areas;

- headlights (light power, dip adjust, pop-up motor)
- indicators (front, rear and side)
- horn (a single wire)
- radio head-unit -> speakers
- various rear lights
- windscreen washer and wiper motor

(can't think of anything more off the top of my head)

TIA

Chris

I bought trailer cable 7 core I believe you can get 12 core as well not bad priced just search the Bay of E.

There is some one on here who makes looms cant recall his name but he has a white 7 type as his avatar

The guy selling it on ebay is on this forum iirc so you'd be better off doing a deal on a bulk order on here with him

Have a search around as i'm sure he's a registered trader and was selling whole looms in his signature

If you want lots of colours in relatively small quantities try AES

AES Linky

Always used Vehicle Wiring Products myself and found them to be very good on choice and availability.

Okay, here's my problem.

I'm crap at wiring, it turns out. Or I don't have any patience with it. Or a combination of the two.

After a weekend's solid loom-ing, I've conceded that I'll struggle to get this done myself. I'm fine with parts and spanners, but semi-existent wiring diagrams and hay-bail wiring just don't sit comfortably in my mind.

So, I'm going to throw this out to see if there is anyone who can help me out (eddie??).

What I need is the following;

A complete body/bay loom for a '97 Mazda MX5, completely bog standard, no airbags, no cruise control, but with the rear window heater circuitry.

The modification to the loom required is that the original engine part of the loom be removed and replaced with the megasquirt (running EDIS6) loom (hopefully using the original fuse/relay box and interior fuse box for the relevant relays/fuses required by the MS). Original ECU to be removed - the MS will sit where the original ECU was (in the passenger footwell).

Simple? Not to me it isn't.

Anyone have any ideas?

Chris
