Few weeks have passed and I still can't get the engine to fire up and loosing my patience with it fast!
All relevant connections have been made and double checked.
I first managed to get hold of a set of clocks and also borrow a spare ECU of malc which works.
It's not the ECU which is a relief, On the clocks I got fault code 17 (exup valve not running it but engine should start) and 12 (crankcase
position sensor) I checked all the continuity between the Black/Blue wire out the ecu that goes to all the sensors including the crank and also from
the crank A ok!
So I took the sensor out and cleaned it up again shes turning over but not firing and fault code appearing on clocks again. So I thought i would pop
down to yamaha and whip up a new sensor Then nearly fell over when he told me it would be 120 quid but a week later after picking the new sensor plug
it in and guess what still same fault code.
I dont know what else to try any help info would be great.

Is the sensor wired the right way round (ie swap the wires), also could the ecu crank sensor input be faulty?

I have checked the wires are correct and tested the output of the ecu on both wires to the sensor with continuity and was ok.
I take it the ECU you borrowed off Malc to try was a US unit?
Yeah was a BO the loom is US as well if I didnt mention it.
But how do you know the eu is fine, has it been tested in another setup, or could there be a dodgy conection in the conector?

Have you had a look at the trigger wheel on the end of the crank, make sure its as it should be ... had the same problem on my zx10r, turned out to be a tooth missing on the trigger wheel, also check the wiring to and from the cam sensor, i had a broken wire there too !!
if you want a hand running the diagnostics stuff give me a shout.
Cheers adam had a quick look few the diagnostics and it doesn't have a mode for the crankshaft I don't think I'll more than likely in the garage over the weekend if your around, il let you know.
Coopz as you know points to the CPS, although I would want to double check all sensor ECU, tilt sw, strtr relay, given your revious mishap, on a
running set up if poss, don't know if Adam has the same set up as you, but if not and you need anything tested on mine happy to help.

I think i had something similar with my car, went though the same sort of thing with trying borrowed ecu, checking my ecu on a known good engine borrowing throttle bodys. The first cure was swapping the whole loom for one malc leant me. i then painstakingly when though every plug and pin from the 2 looms and found a few wires that were swapped. try checking the cps cables are in the correct positions in the connectors at the ecu and the cps connector, rather than rely on wire colours.
im off all week till the sunday so give me a time and im happy to lend a hand. Diagnostics wont even take long 15-20mins but atleast it will hopefully
rule some issues out. if you havent done already it may be worth spending a couple of hours checking the continuity from every ecu wire to the
relevant sensor/component using the wiring diagram, painstakingly boring but potentially worth it if just one wire/connection is at fault.
ps - chapter 4.11 in the manual runs through how to check both crank and camshalf sensors if you havent seen it.

Cheers Dav Malc suggested to try the cam sensor works in a working engine he thinks it might be the problem. As I know the new crank sensor is fine. Now double checked all the continuity and is ok. If covered everything on the wiring side by the weekend will look a the timing wheel and magnet on the cam.
