Hello,
i have an optimate connected to my zx12r- Westfield XTR2.
I am very happy of it.

My uncle has a triumph TR3 , and has problem to keep his battery charged during winter.
The TR3 is earth on + .

So here is my question :
can i connect an optimate on the TR3 ?
Can i connect it the standard way ?
Or should i look for a special optimate?

Thanks,

Gerardo

Normal way with a normal optimate I would have thought, a dc battery is a dc battery in my view.

To be sure I would disconnect the battery from the vehicle.

Cheers

but then disconnecting the battery defeats the advantages of an optimate in the first place.

Check the optimate website or call them. Alternatively, a motorcycle parts shop should be able to find out for you.

I don't understand "connect it the standard way" If you use the clips just connect the + and - as usual red to pos and black to neg it's only the polarity of the vehicle that is different. The car has a dynamo instead of an alternator so it is no problem for the car electrics to be left on charge.

The Optimate is designed to be continuously connected to pretty much any sort of 12V rechargeable battery - acid, gel etc. The fact that the car is positive earth won't affect anything.

I have one connected to my car which has a racing gel battery and it keeps everything in tip top condition over the winter.
