Bike Instrument Issue!!!!!!!
RJK350 - 2/5/10 at 08:51 PM

Using Aprilia Tuono engine (2006), does anybody know if I have to use original instruments or could I use aftermarket?

I was told at Stoneleigh today, I would have to use original instuments for the engine. If not engine will not run. Is this true?

HELP!!!!!!

Some bikes use an imobiliser built into the clocks in conjunction with a chipped key.I had the chance of a GTR1400 engine but it had no keys and therefore apparently needed clocks and ECU to run.
There may be a work around in your case or you could change to an after market ECU and clocks.

I think you will struggle to find an aftermarket ECU that can fire a 60 degree V twin, this could end up very costly.

Megasquirt has an odd-fire option for Harleys.

My motor is a bit older but, as per my U2U, I'm using an aftermarket dash. You won't get the fault codes etc if you use aftermarket clocks but I haven't found it to be an issue.
Have you got a wiring diagram for the '06? I'll have a look and compare it to mine if you want. I think I've still got wiring diagrams of what was left of the stripped out engine loom.
Out of interest, who told you it wouldn't work?
