Ok help please, I have small Denso Alt (3 pin type) on my Zetec. I have ETB Digidash 2 which has no charge warning light. Do I need one??
The wiring diagram in the Westfield site for the Denso Alt has main ring term on Alt connected to 12v term on Starter motor. Second terminal to 12v
Ignition Switched supply and third terminal to Charge Warning light.
What to do?????
Help much appreciated...I'm hoping to fire her up for the 1st time this w/end but I'm unclear on this.
Thanks,
Matt
Basically you have 4 connections
Main battery/charge - connect direct to batt positive or starter motor.
Sense - connect to a switched live, coil feed is ideal
Switched live - connect to any switched live feed
Charge light - connect to charge light
You should be able to identify the connections from this site:

The pins are the same layout on the round pin connectors IIRC
You may find it charges, but the light doesnt go out - mine does this, but I have left it as I have set another programmable light on my dash.... If
you need your charge light to work then it might need a transistor to switch it.
Hi Flak.....you've confused me a tad further.....I have 3 pins only as per the top left image on the westie site - see
attached.Westie Link
Batt conection = OK - simple
12v Switched = OK - simple
Charge Lt - Diigidash doen't have one so do I need one or not....unsure.
My premier loom has charge light wire but nothing to connect to at Dash end.
Matt
Ah, sorry mis understood
You will need one otherwise the coil in the alternator may not energise properly and it wont charge.
You just need a light with one side connected to a switched live and the other to the connection on the alternator
I have a spare savage warning light I couold use...would that be OK??
You need to use a transistor to get the charge light working.

Yep any light would be ok! But it does need one!

As it has a 12v switched live feed it most likely does not require the charge light to work.I would just connect it with out and see if it charges.I
had a denso that had a faulty light out put but it still charged fine.
Paul
Apologies for jumping in on this thread, but can you use a 12v LED as the charge light?
