Megajolt on a 5 cylinder car
RichardK - 14/7/10 at 08:17 PM

My MJ configurator only has 4, 6 and 8 cylinders as options, does anyone know if this is this editable for a 5 cylinder engine?

I'll drop by the autolabs site but Brent will probably be in bed know!

Cheers

Rich

I think you might be disappointed, not 100% though

Nope megajolt just controls the edis and they didnt do a 5 pot edis

shame, been offered an st225 for not alot of money and I would enjoyed putting together a set of carbs etc, get the feeling though the bellhousing might have been a problem though so maybe a lucky escape, engine was in a small fire and the ecu/wiring isn't available either, hence the MJ and carb route.

Would have been fun until things went wrong

Its only a T5 volvo whiteblock engine, both mine cost less than 100 pounds each.

You could probably pick up a whole donor for not much more than that.

How about using a six pot edis? Rally Audi quattros used 6 pot kugelfischer injection pumps, the other outlet being simply blanked off.Cant be any different with a MS.

Was thinking about an edis6 but I'm not the luckiest of people generally so its all bound to go wrong, tend to leave the pioneering stuff to them with more brains and money than I

Thanks all

Not been on the megajolt forum for a while but there were roumours of an edis less setup being developed at one time

I'm guessing 5 cyls just wont work as wasted spark and will be a bit limiting

but it looks like he's going to /eventually/ do a coil on plug unit that looks like it wont suffer from even cyl count only limitation (just says up to 8 cyls)

Failing that megasquirt would also fit the bill and should work with COP systems

LOL,

I /very/ unsucesfully flounced
Pronounced myself out

Realized its only the internet (see image below)

Re joined, did some convenient pruning to hide my failed flounce and some inane ramblings and ended up with a minus posting count

Only 206 more posts and my flounce will finally be a skeleton in my closet

duty calls
duty calls

Rob

It's very different with MS. Injection timing (i.e. start of injection time rather than duration) is non-critical. The engine will run whether you inject against a closed or open valve. With an ignition system the timing needs to be accurate. An EDIS 6 will generate a spark every 120 crank degrees, but a 5 cylinder engine needs one every 144 degrees.
