Hi, does anybody have any experience/knowledge of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7903837256 Or any similar ones? I was thinking of getting one but was a bit worried by the price (How cheap they are) I know they arent thatcham approved but they have an awful lot of features for the money, even found one for £32!! Just wondering if anyone else had used one or seen them to give their opinion before i waist my money. Thanks.
Postage is £20 on top. I recently bought a miniture camera. It was the same sort of deal, cheap price then expensive postage, mainly because they are being shipped from asia. The camera i got was very good quality and was very surprised how cheap it was. They might be ok.
think im going to try the £32 one just incase cause a lot of the features of the expensive one are wasted on a 7 with no doors boot etc, i just want the remote start and alarm really. Any other opinions still welcome though. thanks greggors
my mate has one on his scooby. a few point to bear in mind is that you cant use the remote start whilst its in the garage due to fumes, plus its not very safe cos in a normal car the doors are still locked and the alarm on, in a 7 there are no doors so all that stops someone nicking it is the bells and the steering lock. which would probably work but still risky...
Pretty hideous remote controls Careful when it says about "plug in" features... might be extra to buy those features
be aware that things imported over 22 quid tend to get hit with a 20 quid or so import tax , collected by po when they deliver it. I have bought
things and got away with it, and other times not

I think you need to ask yourself - do I really need one, or is it gadget mania?
What happens if you remote start in gear?
Does it hold the throttle pedal down to get those sidedraughts juiced up?
If I'd ever tried to remote start mine I think I'd have a flat battery due to lack of manual intervention on the pedals

And there is always the fact that Remote Start is not legal in this country.
Any vehicle left running on the road unattended is illegal.
It is just a poser thing really as it is not safe or practical in the UK.
Would you leave your car with the keys in it unattended? If not then why do you need remote start?
Must admit I fancied one of these systems when I first saw them, but came to my senses before spending the cash!

look for Covert Installations on ebay. They are based in Crayford.I got a cat registered lazerline passive arming immobilser from them for 34 quid.
you can buy remote start devices in target, walmart and kmart in the USA. Its supposedly to allow you to warm up the car before going out in a -20
degrees illonois winter....

A neighbour of mine left his car warming up during the winter - it soon got hot!
if you get my drift
I have bought a couple of things off ebay, that have been sent from asia. Mainly because they are cheaper than items here. The first thing i bought was a MP3 player/memory stick. I had to pay £8 tax before i could collect it. It all depends on how much the seller tells their postage people its worth. When i got send the camera i asked the seller to put a small postage charge on it. He said he normally does, when it came throught, it said on the package it was worth £2 so i paid no tax. Just make sure you ask them.
I think the UK limit is 22 quid before tax
Thanks for those comments, especially about the tax, i hadnt realised that. Your all right, it is just for a toy and the £32 one is still reasonable just as an alarm. ive e-mailed the guy and it comes with a wiring diagram english instructions and this one doesnt need any plug-ins but it doesnt have all the features of the one in the link so that one may do. As i havent started my engine yet, just wiring it, i dont know this but do the Webber carbs need a lot of juice before it ll fire? If so, i guess it wouldnt work
it might/will also include a turbo timer function, which is useful, especially if you have a turbo!
Or a hot oil coiler
