Trying to connect 2003 5PW R1 engine wiring to MNR wiring harness.
As far as im'e aware i have connected all the engine wiring, it turns over but no spark at the plugs, starting engine from savage push button
through off - on ignition switch.
To connect MNR loom to bike loom there are three wires to go to ignition i think, brown/power, white/ignition, and white-red/start, connected brown to
off side of ignition and white to on side of ignition switch, switched on ignition and pressed start button engine turned over then main fuse 50 amp
went bang and wiring to this fuse was very hot, hopefully this has happened because i have not connected the white/red start wire were do i connect
this wire.
Help please please please please.
Have you connected the earth up to the engine?
I know this sounds like a dumb question.
Matt
Hi Matt
Yes engine earth connected.
This fuse was OK until i connected the brown and white, the engine turned over but i had not got the fuel pump wired up then but i have now and some
fuel in the tank so i thought connect these last wires and away we go.
Dave
Dave,
I am not familiar with the details of the R1 engine.
But to blow a 50Amp fuse you need to have a lot of wrong current. Worth being a bit careful, at least you have a few fire extinguishers!
Matt
I don't remember the R1 wire colours and not clear on your decription but it doesn't sound right. The starter is operated by putting one
wire to earth, the ignition is seperate, which doesn't sound like what your doing. To blow a 50a fuse you've got something pretty wrong.
Mines a later engine and I've forgotten the exact set up. I can't look up the earlier wiring till Monday. Try a u2u to Chris Mason he's
hot on R1 wiring.

Are you sure the starter current is not going through your 50 A fuse ?
go careful, the last thing you want is to try something that then melts the loom together, or you will have to strip it all back out and start again.
Now disconnected MNR loom from ignition switch.
Now not blowing fuse wiring not getting hot, engine turning over fast battery showing 12.7v, spark on all plugs but not getting fuel because fuel pump
works from MNR loom.
Does that give any clues.
Dave
Hi, I know nothing about mnr or r1 wiring but i do know ford uses brown as earth! kinda depends what the ign switch is from but some fords use whites
and whites with red stripe on ign barrels
may be of help maybe post a pic of the switch and someone can tell you what its from
Ray
Thanks for everyones help sorted now.
I had one to many live wires, taken it out and engine fired up straight away run it for about 2 minutes sounded great, didn't want to annoy the
neighbours.
great day in the end.
Thanks again.
