earth points
dilley - 26/10/10 at 06:35 PM

I have almst completed my wiring, all earth wires on my busa loom seem to be connected to one main earth wire running through the loom, rather than extend all these earth cables back to the main can I just earth to chassis? I can have 2 main chassis earth points, I would feel a lot happier having the regulator/rectifier earthed to chassis as close as possible.. what do you think?

Yes, shouldn't be a problem. Make sure to put a main large earth lead from the battery to both the chassis and the engine.

I understnd the battery to chassis earth, does it really need one to the engine when it is solid mounted to the chassis? my battery is about 2 meters in cable from my engine..

yeah that should be ok! ones the battery is earthed to the chassis, the whole chassis becomes an earth!

Shouldn't be needed then but any paint etc at the mounting points will be a problem. Get around that by attaching an earth strap between the engine and a good chassis earth.

your engine is bolted direct to the chassis with no rubber mounts to absorb vibration from the engine? i bet your teeth are going to chatter a bit?

Beat me to it!

I was always told that it is good practice to have a seperate earth from engine block to chassis anyhow just to be sure.

Arent all BECs setup using a solid mounting from engine to chassis?
