Hi,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good thread to read up on self build megajolt kits please, it'll be for my pinto.
Also where is the best place to get a complete kit from?
Many thanks,
Po.
Autosport labs website has all the info you need.
Also they're the best place to buy and manufacturer of the kits.
The latest version uses surface-mount components - requires quite a bit of skill and experience to get right.
Have a look at the build instructions on their website to see what I mean.

Cheers guys,
I'll take a look at the web site,
Po.
as with the other replies have alook at autosport labs, ive just had my megajolt ecu delivered from them, its also for a pinto and i'm in the process of installing the edis 4, the vr sensor, coil pack, trigger wheel and the ecu etc. Their price is right and good comms vi e mail, they use parcel force in uk for delivery. if u need any other advice re the parts u need add another reply to your thread, i've not fitted one before but ive researched it enough to know whats required.....ive been to breakers today and got my coil pack....in 12" of snow.....will be spending some hours in my garage this week end to fit it all

As said they could be difficult to assemble if you dont have soldering and electronics experience as the surface mount components are very small.I
built lots of the older type and have built a couple of the new surface mount types but if you dont have experience then I would suggest buying one
ready built.

You're quite right David, a magnifier, small pointed soldering iron, and 0.6mm solder, and tweezers are essential, some of the components are smaller than a grain of rice, and polarity sensitive. But, I built mine in 2 or 3 hours, oh yes, good light is another essential.
i'm sure brent doesn;t sell self assembly kits any more due to the processor only being available in SMT,
just checked on the website and there;s only ready built ones available,

I have a Chester sports car kit on my zetec, excellent results.
The processor is still a 16pin DIL type, its just the resistors and caps etc that are surface mount but it does not look as if they are available as
kits any more.
Ive thought of producing a basic version without the extra features and using through hole parts that just does ignition and shift light outputs, but
even the supply of used edis units seems to be drying up around here so not sure if its worth the effort.
