After removing the alternaor from the tintop the other day i'm slighlty concerned that the cable to the alternator is undersized (small tintop wireing loom has larger engine with larger alternator installed)

While under there I noticed the alternator is very close to the larger startermotor cable and am considering connecting the alternator to that, can anybody think of any problems with this?

At first I was thinking of leaving the existing alternator cable in place and bridging the connection to the starter motor, but on second thoughts could this bring the starting load down the alternator cable, or would it be fine as they would just share the load.

Or would it be better to just forget the old alternator cable and bridge the alternator directly to the starter cable?

It seems a shame and expence to bother running a complete new cable down to the alternator when they are so close together and both have a direct link to the battery.

Whats peoples thoughts?

A lot of manufacturers link the alternator lead directly to the starter solonoid main positive terminal , probably because it's cheaper than wiring back to the battery

What do we think about the original Alternator wire,

Connect that up aswell?
Or leave it off and insualte it and tape it up somewhere?
