What diode should i fit too prevent the alternator frying agian, the wire from the charge light is back feeding to the alternator??
The problem is the bright6 unit, its wired correctly but sends 12.5v down the charge light wire too the alternator
I seem to remember that i fitted one of these
My mistake, not this one

Not sure that you need a zener diode like that one - more like one of these ordinary rectifier diodes, physically robust and will take around 6A, which is more than enough.

Hi Guys
Is this a common problem with Bright 6's? I'm just in the process of fitting one to my Elan and want to get it right!

Sorry, but you don't want a zener diode , that for voltage regulation.
If its just to stop backfeed then you just need an ordinary diode.
I think that a 1N4001 1A will do it.
I can probably post you one of those, if thats whats required.

Either will do - the only difference is current rating. Personally I'd go for a 4002 or 4003, but I'm sure that a 4001 would work just as well.
Can't give you any help on which way round to wire it in - I didn't need one when fitting a Bright-6 to my car!
