Oil pressure control for fuel pump
lsdweb - 15/4/11 at 04:54 PM

Hi All

I want my fuel pump (low pressure) to shut off when the engine stops (safety etc). Easiest way is to control the fuel pump relay via the oil pressure switch (with a 'bypass' for starting).

However, the only way I can think of doing this without any fancy electronics is to use a normally closed relay (which I don't want to do as this would fail safe to pumping fuel), or to use 2 relays (too complicated!).

I'm sure I've seen a diagram somewhere on the web but can't find it!

Anybody got any wonderful ideas?!

Ta

Rover used an NO oil pressure switch for this in the late 1908s early 1990s --------- istr late SD1, 1980s 216S (3 box shape), Rover 820 Mk1

And you will need an N/O relay wired to to bypass it when the starter is operated.

Presuming you're on carbs?

Thanks britishtrident - how do you know all this stuff? :-)

Stevebubs - yep carbs. 1963 Lotus Elan (26R) - Lotus Twin cam on 45 DCOEs - No FI in those days although there was, a little bit later on , the Tecalmet Jackson mechanical FI that nobody could get to work properly!

Initial thoughts on how to do it with just one relay........

The down side is the oil pressure lamp would always go out when using the momentary switch, although I have a gauge.
