Electric cooling fan

A total newbie to vehicle wiring so please excuse my ignorance as Ill probably be posting a lot over the next couple of weeks!
Im fitting my loom from premier wiring and want to know how the cooling fan works. I have the live feed but how does the fan know when to come on. I presume it needs a sensor/thermostat but am not sure further than that......

Also, what are the two electrical outputs from the MT75 gearbox are for? Im assuming one for reverse light?

you need a fan switch, that comes on at a preset temperature. Or you can have some that you can set the temperature u want it to switch at

Normally the live goes to a sensor in either the rad', engine or top hose and then to the fan then to earth. What rad are you using? Polo ones have a boss to take a fan switch. Alternativly you could take the live via a manual switch, but that riscs forgetting to switch it (or split the live and do both so have an overide switch)
The 2 wires to the gearbox are probably live feed to the rev' switch and then return to the light I'd assume.

The multi pin mini timer plug on the side of the box is the reverse switch and the 3 pin plug on the tail is the speed sensor for the ecu on the sierra/ granada ect.

I run my telemetrix gauge from this. Ultra smooth compared to magnets on the prop and nothing to fall of.

The fan takes a fair bit of power so will need to be run through a relay.
