Starter motor
ChrisLeary - 21/7/11 at 09:47 AM

Hi all,

How is everyone?

The starter motor gave up on me on the journey home from picking up an L reg 2.0l zetec powered 7 yesterday.

Its a silvertop with Mt75 box, which starter will fit the car and does anyone have one spare?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Check the output wiring from the alternator as it probably feeds the power to the starter motor (the same cable is often shared and is the thick heavy one). You may find it is just a bad connection on the starter motor that is causing you both of the faults you are getting! The post that the cable attaches to on the starter motor solenoid can let go if iyt has over heated or been tightened too much or you may just have loose terminations!

Considering the problems you're experiencing, I'd check all your earth connections as well as the battery & starter leads - battery to chassis, & engine to chassis (as well as what S-D recommends above).

First port of call is always the battery terminals - give them clean.

I've had a look between the starter and the alternatore and it doesn't look like there's a direct connection.

If the post on the starter has gone which starter will be a replacement?

Cheers,

Chris
