Im going to attempt one more time to figure out how to mount my alternator on a 2.0 blacktop. The alternator Im using is this type (P.S Thanks to
Carlknight1982 who donated the alternator)

Just wondering if anyone has used this type of alternator on the blacktop, and if so, did you make you own brackets and idler, and if you did can you
make me one!!! I cant weld so I cant even attemp to make the brackets myself.
Anyways, off I go into the garage for an evening of hopefully productive time..

i'm doing this exact thing at the moment. I'm looking to mount the alternator on the exhaust side if possible to negate the need for an
idler pulley and a very long belt.
what is your solution to the water pump problem?
for the brackets I'm going to use 4 lengths of steel. one the width of the alt, two short pieces to hold the ends of the alternator (going to beg
someone to weld it up for me), then drill/file/jigsaw the fourth to create bar with an adjustable slot in for tension.
A friends fitting his but cant be hassled with making a bracket. So he is using a mk6fiesta (much smaller than the 1.8 focus) with if i remeber the std blacktop alternator bracket.
Im giving up on my alternator as it simply wont fit
Balls up my plans as once thats was hopefully fitted I can get more wiring done. Oh well, my daughters birthday this weekend so not time on the car
until next week. Lets hope I have the motivation to carry on next week
GBS do an alternator kit with idler pulley and all the brackets but at £220 I resent paying that
don't be such a big girl. get some steel, make the brackets and find someone to do a spot of welding for you! someone on here will do it for you i'm sure, if you can't find a local mechanic/engineering firm to spend 5 mins on it for you.

It looks exactly the same as my alternator
and mine fits perfectly on the inlet side
of my blacktop.

Unfortunatley I have a chassis cross rail in the way! im going to speak to GBS and find out what size they use, but as I said before I resent paying
them £200 for an alternator and bracket set.
If that does not work, then more head scratching time.........
This picture is from a build blog from another site, and shows alternator just fitting between cambelt cover and chassis rail, where as mine seems to
be just a bit too big, and the mounting holes are in such a place as to have the adjuster bracket on the bottom, the top mount is about 6 inches
away...

and idler are the same.

Heres mine:
I bought the kit from Retro Ford.
Not cheap, but a brilliant bit of kit. If you aren't a welder/fabricator then its a good alternative.
No help to the OP but I couldn't find room next to my V6 so I stuck it out the front..
Apologies for resurrecting this old thread!
I've bought the Retro-Ford blacktop Zetec idler pulley and mount and can't seem to get it to fit. The bolt holes line up, in pic below, but
the top bolt hole won't sit flush with the engine if the bottom bolt hole is lined up with the water pump bolt. Is the idea that the top bolt
hole is free to move on its bolt? or should I make a spacer? or have I got it completely wrong??
