What's up with my flasher relay?..

One last bit of wiring causing me hassle!

3 pin flahser wired up with pin 49 as +12V, pin 31 as earth, and pin 49a as the output.

49a shows a constant 12v coming out.

As soon as it is connected to a bulb (25w) the flasher relay clicks off again and only clicks back on after running it through the multimeter again.

Anyone have any ideas?

May not have enough load? may need 42 watt bulb equivelent? saying that, they flash fast if one bulb is out.
Duff flasher? too low a voltage?

Basically its a bimetallic strip which as already said will not work unless there is enough load to heat it up enough to break the contact.

ETA just re read it and your problem is its turning off and not coming back on. Strange one that. what do you mean by
" running it through the multimeter again"?

With pins 31 and 49 connected, I can head the relay click. Putting a multimeter from 49a to earth shows a constant 12 volts. As soon as I connect 49a to a bulb I can hear the relay click again, and the bulb does nothing.

The relay won't click again until pin 49a is connected through a millimeter to earth again.

I'll try it with the rest of the indicators connected tonight and see if that make a difference.

Are these relays prone to failing?

best to replace it with an electronic flasher unit, no limit on the lightness (excuse pun) of the load, and so will so LED indicators too,..

I've gone and done just that and it is working fine now..
