Digi dash tacho probs.
owelly - 18/11/11 at 10:45 AM

Just a quicky....
I have a Vapor Digi Dash and the tacho jumps about like a demented seal in a hot bath. I have tried the signal wire direct from one of the three coils, LT wire (V6 engine) and also wrapped around a HT lead. I've tried one wrap all the way up to about 20 wraps and it makes no difference. At tickover which I'm guessing is about 750rpm, the tacho jumps from @ 30rpm to up to @ 2300rpm. When I brip the throttle, it often bounces off the scale. When driving the car, the 'redline' light flashes whenever it feels like it.
Any suggestions? Do I need to sheild the signal wire to stop interference from other leccy stuff? Would one of these http://autosportlabs.net/TachAdapter help?
Cheers folks.
Owelly.

Well, serves you right, you should have bought an Acewell, then you'd get proper sales & service backup!!

However, it sounds like your picking up a "too large" signal for want of a more technical way of describibng it. Try putting a 1 meg ohm resistor in series in the tacho wire, that will probably sort it.

Thanks for the reply. I did look at your dash solutions but I was offered the Vapor at a price that fit my budget (and that of the PPC £999 challenge). So even though the Vapor is too small for me to see, and doesn't work too well, I had to use it!
I'll try the resistor.
Cheers, Owelly.

Ha Ha! brilliant! I shall inform Acewell where they are going wrong with their marketing!!!

Do they have something to pair with a 2856 Digital Dash for simitry in a car?

Don't think I'm quite with you, it's not really meant to be paired with anything, the whole idea of a digital dash is that it incorporates eveything in one place. I guess you could have circular water temp & oil pressure gauges to each side of it.

2856 is actually aimed at the bike market, 2859 has better suited lights for car applications.

On a car you tend to have one large dial slightly above and to eatch side of the stearing wheel I can see that the 2859 can do al lmost evry thing my exsisting gauges do but i'm left with a lopsided looking dashboard do that make a large tack to pair with the exsisting gauge?

Ah! Understand what you mean now comparing with a standard tintop dash. The only standalone tacho Acewell do is the 1100, tho' it has quite a few other functions, but it's a rectangular gauge so certainly wouldn't help with symmetry!

The 2859 has of course already got a tacho built in, so you don't have to have any other gauges at all.
