ECU Wiring
turnipfarmer - 27/1/12 at 12:46 PM

Mornin' all..

I’m running a new 2.0 Zetec blacktop, and using the engine loom from a mk 2 Mondeo.

I’ve separated out the wiring for the injectors, cam and crank sensors, TPS, MAF/air temp sensor, idle control sensor & lambda. All the wires for these run back to the ECU plug with no loose tails.

Except that is for the lambda, where the green/yellow wire hangs in fresh air. Where is that supposed to connect to?

Also, I need a feed to the ECU for the coolant/cylinder head temperature. (Which is it?)
Which plug on the loom is this, and wherabouts on the engine does it connect to? Have tried all possible combinations, but nothing seems to fit.

Any help appreciated. Loom pics in my archive.

Thanks

This is a fused switched 12v live that powers the heating element in the narrow band sensor.

There are two temp sensor plugs in the loom. One is for the dash and the other is for the ecu.

The plug near the lamda sensor is for the dash and would fit in the bottom of the thermostat housing.

Two wires red/white.....black/green

There is another plug near the crank sensor pick plug.

Two wires White/green.....brown/green

These fit in the thermostat housing. There may not be a connection on your stat housing for both of these. on the last of the focus engines They moved one of them and blanked the stat housing.

Hope this helps

Ah! Gotcha re the lambda wire - ta!

CHT connector on my (late Focus) engine is at the front of the engine on the driver's side, right next to the cambelt cover.
There are 2 wires running to it, 1 black, 1 brown. Not only is it a female plug, (like those on the loom) the housing also has a shape unlike any other. It goes without saying that nothing on the loom will connect to it, so still got a problem re this.

Thanks for the other info.

You will have to take a photo mate.

Pics now in my archive under 'Sender'

Hopefully solved this problem now.

He's right.

I traced the white/green wire back to the ECU connector, and it does indeed end up at pin 38, so this is obviously the wire I need. With Ford moving the sensor from the thermo housing to front of the engine near the cambelt cover, not only have they changed the sender plug for an entirely different one, it's now also a male rather than a female as it was originally.

However, the new plug is (as good as) identical to the knock sensor, and I've got one of these on another loom. It seems to fit OK.

So I'm going to cut the old style plug off the loom, and swap it for the knock sensor plug. Hopefully that should solve my problem.
