Xflow Oil Press Switch
Dick Axtell - 30/3/12 at 08:41 AM

Std xflow oil press switch - with threaded brass electrical conection.

Is this a BA thread? If not, can anybody tell me what true thread is?

BTW - original harness connectors were rubber-covered, push-on type. Don't have one for this diameter.

Not BA, from memory 1/8 BSP(T).

Ditto

Can't remember for sure but I thought it might be 1/4 BSP, the same size as the oil gallery plugs?

Dick Axtell - 31/3/12 at 05:32 PM

BSP??????????????

Surely - that's the thread used for screwing into the block port. I'm needing the thread on the brass stud, for the electrical connection. BSF/UNF maybe, but which?

Aah! Now he is being more explicit

No 6 UNF? But I seem to remember that a female bullet just pushed on to it?

I can check on Monday. I have a thread gauge!!!

Female bullet - Yes!! But as I said in my original post, I don't got any this size left (from the old donor loom). So, I was hoping to use a bolt-down elec connector instead. Therefore, I need to know the thread. Hope you'll be able to gauge it.

Think its the same as the screw on ht lead connector on the top of any spark plug I seem to remember, if that helps!

Cheers

Rich

Time to invest in a set of thread gauges??

Have already done so. Just cannot lay my hands on them, at the moment!

Great - thank you! Will deffo check that out, got some spare old sparkers somewhere in the lock-up. Might even doscover where I've hidden those thread gauges!!!!

nilocp - 2/4/12 at 04:14 PM

Well what a wally I am!!!

I have checked the thread on a temperature sender not an oil pressure sender!!!!!

But for information that is 3/16in 40 tpi. Which basically doesnt exist!!!

It is NOT M5, 2BA, BSF, Whitworth, ANC, UNC, ANF, UNF or even cycle thread!!!!!!

So tomorrow I will have a look at an oil switch. (But it probably is the same anyway!!)

Thanks for checking. Is there/Was there a specific thread for domestic electrical fittings, i.e. those little brass screws inside plugs & light switches? Some of the more industrial types have bigger dia threads for their screws etc.

nilocp - 3/4/12 at 04:38 PM

Dick, Right, I have been through all my oil pressure switches, and all the crossflow ones have got a spade connector! I do have some Pinto ones with a thread.
These are weird as well. M4 x 0.8, which doesnt exist!! Or it is 5/32 x 32 which is 8-32 UNC. This takes the red bullet, just pushes on.

I hope that helps???

Thanks for the additional data. Have tried using the screw collar from spark plug, but it doesn't fit.
However, have successfully used gash nut found in one of my odds-&-sods collections. It does not fit the water temp sensor, however, which appears to be yet another strange thread!!
