starter motor rebuild or replace
AndyW - 31/10/12 at 05:07 PM

Hi guys,

I have a Lucas starter (LRS707) on a 20 blacktop. It was "swapped" with some parts and if I remember the previous owner said it could be lazy but worked! It worked fine until recently when the solenoid is sticking and spinning constantly. Even a wack does not stop it. So the question is, is it possible to buy overhaul kits and refurb or should I buy a new one???

Also the post where the live feed from the ign switch goes is very loose and Im not sure if this can be repaired or its toast.
Thanks

Andy

Lazy solenoid tends to be muck and dust mixed with grease
Post can be a nut missing
There not hard to fix if you have parts
Lazy starter tends to mean brushes
Zetec starter is the same in most cases as a CVH one

By the sound of it just strip the fork and solenoid off and clean mechanism with WD40. New solenoids off ebay are very easy and cheap to fit, but if you have any suspicions about the motor part get it overhauled professionally or fit a new unit.
