rear fog posistioning
john_p_b - 17/9/04 at 03:28 PM

just want to clarify with some of you more clever ppl than me about the posistion of my rear fog light. according to sva book it needs to be a minimum of 250mm from the ground and no less than 100mm from the brake light.

does it make any difference as to where i have my stop/tail light? they are at about 430mm so am i still ok to just have the fog at or near to the 250mm?

also the reverse light, there is no mention of that in the sva book as i'm sure it's a totaly optional and non-testable item but if i fit it before test is it then going to become something else for them to try and fail me on?

thanks for reading
john

I've just been for my SVA yesterday and failed on the Fog light positioning. Mine is too low, min of 250mm. There was no mention of it being 100mm away from the brake lights.

My brake lights are mounted on the rear wings and the fog light is central at the bottom.

John ----looked at my sva manual . It says brake light minimum is 350mm. As you say minimum seperation then being 100mm for the fog light.
As long as thery are apart the min distance you should have no probs.

One thing to bear in mindthough , the fog lamp must be positioned at right angles to the ground. IE --use a bracket to make it level . I'll put pics on my photo archive

The reflective area has to be perpendicular and has to be at least 250mm from the ground on the centre or off side of the car. Seperation from the brake light has to be at least 100mm in either direction unless it is in an 'E' marked unit containing all 3 lights so it is deemed to meet the criteria.

If you fit a single fog light it must be either on the centreline of the car or to the right of the centreline. If to the right of the centreline it is technicaly illegal to use in mainland Europe.

well i've put it to the right but it's just a case of getting it to sit at the right angle now so will have to make a plate to go behind it as obviously the back of the car doesn't sit at a right angle to the road

not really too concerned about it being legal or not in mainland europe as i don't really have any intentions to drive the car to paris or anything

European production cars have one fog lamp sited on the right (or left for the home market) - how do they get on?

You could fit a matching pair but they still have to be 250mm up and 100mm from the brake light.

So, do you think this will pass? Rescued attachment 100_0257.jpg

Roadkill,

Why not mount it here on an "L" shaped bracket (so the mounting hole is underneath ie not visable) and then move it back to where you had it origanally before.

Excuse the crap editing.

Thats what I did, and a few others I know. Rescued attachment Fog light.jpg

I like the idea but I don't think there will be enough room for the number plate, I know it won't have one on for the retest but you never know they might measure it.

I've fixed it on now and I think it looks quite nice.

Thanks for the advise though
