Relay wiring

Evening all

Just a quick one

I have some relays in my donor loom (MX5) labeled COM, NO, COIL, COIL.

So easy enough but does it matter which coil goes to earth? When I put power to it quickly the relay clicked either way I did it.

So does it matter or will I have to test it properly?

no - normal open
com - common
[nc] - normally closed

coils can /usually/ go either way, some can use ac too

The only time it makes a difference is if there is a diode across the coil, but they are usually indicated on the markings
As you have tried it both ways and it clicked it hasn't got a diode so yes either way is ok

coils are fine either way unless they have a diode across them for backward emf.
