Switches etc. waterproof?
40inches - 17/3/13 at 11:50 AM

Has anyone had any problems with saloon car type switches in a 7?
Just idle curiosity really, I fitted the Sierra dash switches and stalks to my old 2B, the first run out with it was Chesterfield to Whitby
for the week. It hissed it down all the way there, and all the way back. No screen, and 2" of water in the seats.
But, not any electrical problems at all, then or later.
Lucky or just normal?
Just remembered, condensation in the Greengages tacho, but that cleared up, and didn't return.

I make a point of giving my stalk switches a squirt of WD40 or contact cleaner every time they get wet. Hazard warning light glows when there is a problem. I know of at least one car that had electrical problems after getting wet

its only ever my sierra hazard switch that plays up on my car if it gets too wet.

Faults will more likely show up over time due to corrosion of the contacts. rather than at the time they get wet. A squirt of WD40 or similar is probably a good idea.
