Dominator light upgraid

Have fitted some H,I,D bulbs with ballast packs. Wow what a difference, looks like the lights you get on mercs now. Big thanks to the person who told me just to change the bulbs. Kev.

Be prepared for all the people that are about to go on about you need head light washers and auto levelling lights etc etc now you have HIDs.

Where did you get the kits btw??

make sure you swap them round for MoT time!

No need to swap them round at mot time for aftermarket fitted hid kits, only time they will fail is if the beam pattern is incorrect

can you get hid kits for standard 7 stle lights as mine are rubbish at night!

You can get HID conversions for pretty much any car. Its not the type of light that really counts, just the type of bulb. I would assume you have H4 bulbs and they are most definately available.

Wrong again i know the mot regs and aftermarket kits fitted are not a fail if the beam pattern is correct

The mot applies to cars fitted as standard with hid

The second part of the new mot rules came in middle march 2013 which includes HID amongst who items

The 2006 DfT report that mandated headlamp washers and self-levelling was eventually going to be introduced in 2012 - but then wasn't :-)

looking at the size I guess they won't fit into a standard 7 style headlight

I would assume the bulbs themselves arent much different in size, its just the rear part thats quite large. Do the pictured ones have seperate ballast's or are they integrated in to the back? If so maybe some will have the ballasts remote which may aid install in to a tight space.

a club member is selling these on our site with great success - you can see the remote ballast units in the second to last pic:

Oh so the rear part is just the dipped/main motor/solenoid.

I suppose the other option would be to install dipped H4 HID bulbs which are slimmer in the main headlight then add spot lights for main beams elsewhere.

HID light conversions are not legal. they also now fail mot‘s Unless your headlights are self leveling AND you have headlight washers fitted.
also HID bulbs give a poor pattern if not used on the right headlamps.

I suggested this but was shot down. In fact, reading the manual, its only if they are present do they have to work.
HOWEVER i believe construction and use regs do require them to have washers and levelers, but as discussed before, the MoT and C&U dont always read off the same page.
