Hello you Electric experts,
Since fitting an IVA-friendly Sierra steering wheel, have had to re-wire the horn temporarily. Originally, it was switched earth type, for use with
centre horn button and steering wheel slip ring arrangement. Now trying to make horn work via screen washer stalk.
With ign off, horn works. Ign on - it doesn't. Wghat have I done wrong? Thought it would be simple to provide switched earth via washer stalk,
but clearly not. Your help and expertise would be welcome.
Do any lights etc. glow when you operate the horn? Sounds like you are potentially 'grounding' the horn through the ignition switched circuit, so with ignition on you have 12v instead of 0v.
My washer provides 12v, sounds like yours could be the same.
Thanks for your thoughts on this hold-up. Search over last year threw up yhis thread :-

The suggestion to use a relay sounds interesting. Might look further into that.
It is a relay you need - mine was exactly like this - basically the switch can't cope with the required current to make the horn hoot.
Edit : if you need some help wiring up the relay shoot me a u2u and I'll send you a diagram.

Thanks Renetom. Will add this to diagrams downloaded from the web.
it seems to me that the horn is getting a live and earthing via .....whatever.... and the washer cct is giving a live feed the other way so it balances out you need to find out which cct is giving the live (washers most likely)
