Afternoon,

Whilst rebuilding the car I thought I ought to get the oil pressure reading to actually display something so had a bit of an explore. It's a VDO sender remoted from the 'blade lump and mounted on the engine cradle. Ever since I've had it the digidash has read 'NC' which I believe means not connected.

Initially I thought this may be due to a poor earth of the sender so tried earthing it to various points with no change.
I then tried earthing the terminals on the sender while still connected and ended up with the following:

A) If I earth what I think (from the digidash wiring diagram) is the low oil pressure switch and I get a reading on the digdash that does vary with engine speed but seems far too high. ~70 at idle, after running the engine for a few minutes but quickly rising to the senders maximum value at 5500/6000ish rpm.

B) If I earth the other terminal (oil pressure) the digidash reads 0 constantly irrespective of engine rpm.

So is A workable and the pressures too high as the oil is still cold (can't take it for a run to get warm as I've not finished rebuilding yet...) or is something else amiss?

You need to earth the body of the sensor not one of the terminals. You wont get an earth via the remote mount. On mine I have a spade terminal squashed between the sensor and its mounting jubilee clip fastened to a ground wire.

Yes, that is what I've tried and how it was initially set up.

I've tried using a length of wire directly between the sensor body and one of the main earth points on the car and still got NC.

I was wondering if its been damaged from vibrations as it has been mounted on the engine cradle rather than the chassis and therefore not been isolated from engine vibrations despite being remoted.

I think i will try ringing etb instruments and seeing if they have any ideas. If not I suspect I will need to try a new sender.

Got a new sender sent out from ETB and all is working as it should. I think the lack of rubber or foam between the sender and the mount probably meant that it was killed by vibrations.
