I am trying to work out the best way to wire my lights so when I press the main switch, the dipped turn off (h4 bulbs so don't want them both on
at same time).
I have got savage switches and I tried wiring the dipped through the normally closed on the second pole of the main savage switch which worked but if
the fog was on, it meant the fog turned off when I pressed the main.
Any ideas??
Cheers
A switch over relay.
This is usually done by the switch mechanism of the car.
Simplest way would be to wire a relay so that the 57a output supplies the dipped beams, and the coil is charged/switched by the main beams being
turned on, this would trigger the relay to switch the dipped off.
Edit,
its worth noting the switch mechanism that normally does this, will keep the dipped's on when you 'flash' main beam, as this avoids
turning the dipped filaments on/off in quick sucsession, limiting the wear/damage - the above relay set up would not do that, not without further
thought/wiring anyway.

define the problem a little more clearly.....
not having the dips on with the mains is the usual way to do dip lights, but it is an easy thing to achieve using a 5 pin relay and a 4 pin relay you
use the 4 pin to power up the 5 pin relay so default is dip and triggering the 5 pin will switch over to main beam..
