Hi all
My 7 does require a fog light for the MOT, as per the orig spec of the car, as I am pre SVA/IVA etc
But for the MOT does the said light have to be a "fog light" or could I switch it to the 3rd brake light which is a strip led, ?
Ive read an oldish MOT tester guide, and it doesn't say that it has to be a "emarked or what ever light"

I don't know - but I like it
I think it needs to be located on the offside of the vehicle for the MOT if there is only one, so being in the middle probably wouldnt pass, but it
should be bright enough.

I've been running my fog lights as additional brake lights on the tin top for years (standard lights are a bit pants and I had a few folk get
very close at dusk). But I'm fairly sure the fog light has to have separate wiring, be independent and have a tell-tale.

what year did the foglight requirement come in? mines been through its last 4 mot's without one although it is on a Q plate.

I have a switch that changes the strip light from a 3rd brake light to the fog light, and it does only come on with ign on, and lights selected, plus
has its own illuminated light on the dash
My car is a 1979, and DOES have to have a fog fitted

if its 1979 according to that link it doesn't, it states 1st april 1980 and later needing one.
I believe, that if it was fitted as oe, even pre 1980 then it had to work,
I could argue it, as my "tester" is ok

My car was first registered on 04 08 1980 so DOES req one
i did think W was 80/81 but it is a long time since i've had a car that age so couldn't remember for sure.
is it not easier to just replace the other fog light and remove it again after or has the wiring been removed as well?
that's what i do with my number plate light, made up a bracket that sticks to the back of the number plate.

I don't know what the regs are, but I have to admit, as long as it looks sensible I expect you could get most things thought an MOT, such as
using a racing rain light as a fog light.
That said, I think using a high level LED brake as a fog light is a poor idea, and would certainly not be overly happy with it on my car, or as am MOT
tester, as its confusing and blatant miss use of parts.
Although I am also a massive advocate of having a bright foglight, and am very aware that should the weather turn bad unlike a modern tintop where
there a bit optional, on the kit you really cant be seen if you don't use the fog light to the extent that if im on the motorway often pull of at
the next exit to check the bulbs still working, so do mean to swap it out for the LED fog light I have bought (with matching rev light).

Brake lights are the same Wattage as FOG, but the lens pattern is very dififferent.
There must be a fog light on the market that has a similar shape to a 3rd brake light you could use.
