Indicators and hazards not working when engine is running?

Slightly confused by this. Started on way back home from IVA. Indicators and hazards won't work properly when engine is running. Will work when engine is off, and if on before engine starts, they will work for a while with engine on. Lighting loom is separate to bike loom so not sure why this could be happening. Any suggestions?

My only idea is a loose connection that the engine vibration causes the circuit to break?

classic earthing problems,

first check 'jump lead' engine to ground

Voltage across the battery when running is 14.2v which I believe is be about what it should be?

Earth connections seem to be ok.

Flasher relay doesn't seem to be getting hot. This issue occurs as soon as the engine is started. It works fine when engine is off..

the hazards and indicators are wired from a permanent live off my lighting loom so separate to all the bike loom stuff. Any other thoughts as to why this is occurring when engine is running? Would the increased voltage when running be affecting the flasher relay?

What is the voltage supply to the relay when the engine is running? I once had a poor connection t my 12v distribution point and the voltage to a component could drop to 4v.

The relay I am using has 3 pins on it, however I am only using two of them. Pins are labelled X P and L. I am using X and L.

The indicators/hazards work when at idle, voltage across X and L is flicking between 11.9 and 0v. When I increase revs the voltage across X and L is a constant 13.9v.

Have you tried switching the headlights on while the engine is running?

If the headlights are dim when the engine is running, then I'd suggest giving your earth connections another good looking at, together with the main 12v feed wiring from the battery to the rest of the car.

All earth connections seem to be ok. Headlights do not dim when engine is on.

I removed my flasher relay and connected the input and output together, the indicators are then on but do not flash. They stay on when the engine is on. They do not turn off even at high revs.

This indicates to me that the flasher relay is the problem? Does this sound like this could be the issue?

Can anyone recommend a flasher relay? I have 4 indicator bulbs (21w each) and 2 LEDs in the indicator/hazard circuit.

Included a sketch of my wiring for the hazards/indicators. Also included a photo of the relay I am using.

Front and rear indicators are 21w bulbs. Side repeaters are LEDs.

Do you need a beefier flasher unit?
Your total connected load is probably close to 90 Watts.

Still didn't work when the front bulbs were disconnected so was only about 45w.

Ordered a new relay so ill see how that goes. I can't see how it can be anything else.

problem solved! put in a thermal relay which works properly, only problem being the indicators aren't instant now. It takes a second for the lights to go on after pressing the switch. Id prefer it to be instant for changing lanes, overtaking etc.

Can anyone recommend an electronic relay that would suit my application. 4 x 21w bulbs + 2 LEDs?
