Hi, I want to fit an LED number Plate Light on my Avon, EBay Item 251021764545 , as I prefer the look to a standard trailer type.
Will I need to buy a resistor as well and if so what size/range?
Wom
Nope
+1,
Resistors are only needed to fool normal flasher relays, or on some newer cars which have computers that sense bulb failures.
Thx guys, I did pick up that Audis can have a problem and need a resistor, hence prompted a question.
So I'm gonna need some resistors for the indicators and side repeaters then... How do I work out what?
As you've guessed electrics are going to be my learning curve.......
LED light units for number plate lights, sidelights, tail lights, interior lights and even brake lights will be fine for kit car use. They are made
for automotive use and will include the required resistors to run on 12 to 14volts without a problem.
By comparison LED indicators are a minefield. Dont worry about resistors as again anything sold for car use will be protected to work on car voltages.
The practical problem for most though is that LED indicators just dont draw enough current on their own to make a standard flasher relay work. You
can fit extra LED indicators (as many as you'd like) to an existing circuit that contains front and rear incadescent (normal bulb) indicators.
BUT if you intend to replace all indicators with LED ones you would need to change the indicator flasher relay to a non current dependant type.
Not used them myself, but what about these?
