Is this for security?
Tracker stylie?
When you say you don't want to go down the smartphone route you mean you don't want a tracker that takes a PAYG sim card and notifies your
phone if it moves.

I use one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GPS-104-Tracker-No-Contract-No-Fees-Long-Battery-Life-/221349844888?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item33897a9798
Lasts for months on standby and takes a PAYG sim card, you can set a geo fence and if your car starts moving it phones you and you can track it in
real time on your PC or smartphone. There are lots of different ones at differing prices with differing software. They are made in China and there
are 4 or 6 main factories that use the same hardware but add their own firmware and some are better than others.
If you want something like this ask the seller to e-mail you the instruction manual first just to be sure you like what you see, they will do it no
problem.
If you have a Google+ or GMail account Google Device Manager will locate the position of any Android device that is connected t and registered to
the locator service.
Also take a look at this device available on Amazon
