When I purchased my mk Indy it came with the loom. It had some of it labelled at the ends for the nsr lights fos lights. But where it all meets up behind the dash it has no labelling at all. What's the best way to check what's what and could I just use a 9v battery and a little buzzer or bulb at the other end???
If you don't have one already buy yourself a proper mulit-meter which has a continuity function.
It will pay for itself in no time if you are wiring the loom yourself.
A couple of insulated mini-crocodile clips from Maplins and a suitable length of wire to extend the multi-meter leads is all you need.

As above but an even easier way is use a circuit tracer I bought one of these with my Xmas Amazon gift cards the exact type I got cost about £16

Apart from identifying wires it is brill for finding broken wires and bad connection.

A lot of eBay sellers increase the price to a silly high value when they run out of stock it dodges eBay relisting charges when they restock.
When buying a DMM it pays to pay a just a little more for better quality, but you don't have to pay Fluke prices for a decent meter, I use a
Uni-T UT203 which is an auto-ranging meter which as well as measuring voltage and checking continuity has a current clamp that can measure up to 400
amps DC or AC.
Most DMMs can only measure up to 10 amps without blowing the internal fuse.
For anybody looking for a general purpose automotive DMM useful for checking alternator output or even starter current Uni-T UT203 or UT204 is a good
choice.
On eBay the UT203 ,sells for about £25 to £30 the UT204 is about £5 dearer.
Note all the Uni-T 200 series look very similar but only some models measure DC current.
