I am planning on using a MX5 steering column with my Zetec engine which will use PATS.

Has anyone done this etc?

the zetec PATS sensor is just a sensor ring that fits round the ignition switch.....it probably only needs to be near the key so fitting it close to where the key goes would likely do.
i cannot imagine that fitting it to a mazda column will give any issues.

I was thinking more about how to use the ky with the lock etc. The Mazda column wont fit the Mondeo barrel etc?
If not, how can I use the Mondeo key etc?

Ok, so on the Mondeo key is a red or blue dot, dig this out and a small plastic or glass bead will fall out. This is the bit that the pats needs to see.

Put the PATS ring round the Mazda steering lock and find a way to put the bead in the Mazda key and Bob's your Uncle.
