Gearbox Speedo pickup
scoobyis2cool - 21/12/04 at 05:18 PM

Has anyone used a speedo pickup that fits into the gearbox slot where the cable would normally go?

So far I've broken my magnet sensor type twice and I don't want to keep shelling out for them! Was just wondering how good they are, and are they practical? Will they fit into the prop tunnel etc?

Cheers,

Pete

I fitted a set of VDO gauges 250 miles ago and didn't feel like forking out £50 ish for the sensor. Lots of alternatives but I got a hall effect sensor from a mondeo box and stuck it behind the dash on the end of the speedo cable. Saves on long wire runs. Works fine so far. (had been looking for the sensor from a granada but not found one so far)

Did Ford ever use a gearbox speed sensor on the Type 9 as on the MT75 'box? If so you could fit one as they work very well. All later EFI and ABS equiped cars had then. Just a thought.

Ford used electronic pickups on all the later granada's that are the same shape as the sierra's.

I think that answers my question..."Speedo Sensor"...I hope!

For some unknown reason, I'm not allowed to "play" this coming Saturday???
