Check you are getting 12v power at pin(8) and also at the central pin of the coil pack. You can use a model makers or dress makers "T" pin to make a test connection by back probing into the rear of the connector. It goes without saying to check all the units have a good connection to battery ground.

To test the signal from the crank sensor you can check the signal from the sensor by using a multimeter across the two sensor wire to measure either the AC voltage or frequency of the signal.

To test the coil pack you can trigger an HT spark with the ignition on by jigging an LED test light connected to battery positive on to either of the two outside connectors on the coil pack, one side of the connector is for cylinders 1&4 the other 2&3 --- again you can back probe using a T pin to make the test connection.

Reversed crank sensor wiring has been known to cause a no-start or rough running but this unlikely if you are using the wiring as it came from the donor and the engine has been running ok up to now.

Beyond that to test the esc unit itself you would need either a basic oscilloscope or a crank sensor simulator.

This Paul Danner (ScannerDanner) YouTube video shows how to check a Ford VRS crank sensor ---- a later system and very differenr engine but similar sensor.
