Hi i have a question, i am wiring up (or attempting too), my ETB gauges, according to the Luego loom you have a switched live and a permanent live, am i right in saying they need wiring to the switched live only? I also have fitted a fog light switch and a fan switch, do these need to be permanent live or switched? also have warning lights to do, they each have 2 connectors, are these for the switched live and the other for the relevant sensors etc? ie alternator light, indicators, oil low pressure light, main beam etc? As you can see wiring is a bit of a black art for me and i have blown about 10 fuses today, all help very much appreciated, cheers

i dont know why your guages need switched and permanent live - I would just wire them to switched live. Make sure you put a fuse in the line - i would say either 2a or 5a.


the warning lamps will need wiring as per the requirment. Some things, like alternator warning lights, have switched live to one teminal, and the alternator to the other. Same for things like oil pressure - swithced live to one terminal, oil switch which makes the cct to ground to the other. Some things, like fog lamp warning light, will have a feed from the fog lamp line, then other terminal of lamp to ground. Will depend on application.

fog lamp is best supplied from the line that feeds the headlights - ie only allowed to be on if headlights are on. the warning lamp is simply wired as per the fog lamp itself....

generally fan is wired from switched live, cos when engine is off, no water circulates, so fan isnt doing much....


make sure you fuse all items - you can get an idea of the ratings needed by looking at a haynes manual, or your nomal daily driver's fuse box or manual.

I'd agree with Steve with the proviso that if you have a clock it should have a permanent live or you'll have to re set it every time you turn off the ignition!

All my dash is fed from the switched live (yelow/black-sierra loom) except hazards, They need to be permanent live.
If the dash is fed permanent live, your petrol gauge will always read, as will oil pressure light and battery light (if you have one). As for a clock, i have one strapped to my arm, and couldnt thoil £50 for one for the car.

CAi/smiths gauges recomend a 3A fuse also (violet iirc)

i've done my foglamp as per stephens example, just piggy backed in the fuse box.
