so my multi function display on my kawasaki jet ski has finally died.
Last year before i put her away for winter hibernation the fuel gauge, RPM and clock worked along with the warning lamp.
Dragged her out at the weekend to get her ready for the season and the display is totally dead!
I removed the display and stripped it down and it came as no surprise that the PCB was corroded from water ingress
(How Kawasaki can make a jetski display that leaks is beyond me but it is a common fault)
Tried to clean it up and repair but some of the surface mount components have corroded and fallen off, so a repair is not an option. The unit is
DEAD
Anyway I need to source some gauges or a full display to replace it.
To replace the unit is over £1000 and they are are as rare as rocking horse sh1t, so I would have to order one from the states or Japan.
Alternative gauges are to be sought, I don't need the full complement of display but some things I do need:
RPM
Fuel level
Oil pressure lamp
Water temp lamp
not too bothered about speedo but would be good if I could hook one up
So I can get 2 x marine gauges and a couple of lights, this would set me back around £100
Or I am looking at the acewell digidash.
It looks like it will do the trick but the size of the display looks a little small?
The display from the ski is 130mm x 55mm screen size
I have around 200mm wide x 100mm high area to play with to fit the display but I can go a little bigger if necessary
Any reviews on the digidash and what sort of sensors does it come with?
I am going to have to replace the fuel level sender but that is not a problem, I can fit a 0 - 230 ohm unit in no problem

If you want it to last i would suspect you would want a marine based replacement as the car/bike ones ive seen would be no better sealed (or worse) than the (what appears to be badly) sealed original.

Its more the exposure to salt water that would prematurely rust the internals of an only 'water resistant' product though.
The Acewell dashes are touted as being water proof and used for bikes so probably much like the one that was fitted probably.
I have the 7XXX version and it has all the features you want for about the right size.

I'm the one who originally set Furore Products up & was dealing with Acewell for 5 years plus before handing the business over to Oliver,
Acewell are absolutely rock solid, failure rate was tiny & they offer the best after sales I've ever come across, we were able to get parts
or wiring/sensors etc. for units damaged in service years after they were no longer produced
With regard to water proof, they were originally designed with bikes in mind & I believe they will withstand even occasional total immersion,
tho' I would suggest that would be a good thing!
Not sure how you would hook up a speedo on a jetski as the Acewell (or any other digital car/bike type speedo) relies on wheel rotation to generate a
pulse, Oliver does however also stock some marine GPS speedos, so one of those might be worth a look perhaps in conjunction with the Ace 1100 which
just does rpm/fuel/temp etc without a speedo (doesn't have warning lights), alternatively something like the 2859 or 3252 would do everything you
want
Don't worry about display size, even the smallest gauges are clearly readable across a room, & you're going to be in roughly the same
position as a bike rider
Modern gauges like the 3252 can be adjusted to work with almost any fuel sender & come with a 1/8 x 27 NPT tapered temp sender which will fit most
applications, or can have a tube with that thread in fitted to accommodate the temp sensor. Any features or lights that you don't want can either
be turned off in the setup procedure or simply left disconnected

I had no idea jet skis had water wheels for a speedo! Learn something new everyday!
The later dashes like the 3252 & the 7xxx series & indeed the 6xxx which I think is the one you're referring to as having the analogue
tacho will all pick up from a hall type speed sensor, IIRC the Acewell is looking for a square wave with a minimum switching voltage of around
2.5/2.7V, max of 5V so if your sensor has such an output then it's simply a matter of calibration. Change the no. on the "P" screen in
setup for the no. of pulse per "wheel revolution", typically on a car this is around 40/50, it may be similar on the jetski, & then
change the "wheel circumference" on the "C" screen to fine tune it against a GPS speedo such as on a phone, should certainly be
feasible
The tacho feed can pick up from switched side of coil, or an injector or the wire can be wound around an HT lead as an inductive pickup, tho' I
doubt on a jetski you'd have exposed HT leads, I guess it's coil on plug?
You will need to use the Acewell temp sensor for temp input as you can't recalibrate to use a different sensor
