Fix loose relay
JC - 8/6/17 at 03:28 PM

After much searching and systematic fault finding, I have fixed most of the electrical maladies with my car. However, the last issue is that at least one of the relays is loose - apply gentle sideways pressure and it makes, release it and it errr, unmakes.

I think it is possible to replace the spring clips - doesn't sound like a job for the sausage fingered - but does anyone have a guide on how to do this (and how easy it is!)? The relay box is 1996 Ford if that makes a difference!

Thanks

JC

the connectors in car fuse/relay boxes are usually held in place with a barb on the back of the connector, so you need to slip something thin in beside the connector, and it should then slide out easily.

edit, this page shows the barb / tag

It could be the relay, worth trying another before stripping the holder.
If it is the connection in the holder you can tweak them with a small screwdriver to get a better connection without removing it from the holder.

My thoughts - another relay isn't much and may well solve the issue for you.

I've already swapped relays and it makes no difference

Should be able to tweak the fittings without removing, either small screwdrivers or small long nose pliers
