I've gone for the most powerful one that would fit on the holder I bought.
Not tried it yet and hear different opinions off different people, lad at work has always had trouble on multiple track cars using Varley etc small batteries.
Where as couple of m8's with kit cars say they never have issues.
Wondering if it's a case of they need to be coupled to a charger/conditioner whenever car is not in use?

Off topic but interested in details on the Jag engine and tune?

I've gone for similar to that, recommended by other kit car owners.

Thanks for the reply. I have the equivalent in my 2.l zetec car but not sure if it will turn over a 3l v6. Are there any 3l v6 owners that can recommend the correct amp hour battery?
Regards, Jon

Peak cranking amps is nearly the same for 3 litre 6 cylinder as a 2 litre 4 cylinder but the average cranking amps is higher.

I really would not want to go lower than 60 ah 580 cca , for a hobby car that isn't in continuous use an AGM battery is the way to go because the don't go flat in over winter storage and tolerate abuse much better than calcium lead acid type. Battery Megastore sell flat plate Hankook types. Having tested a couple of Hankook batteries I found they always returned test results higher than the the rated CCA and AH as a result I run Hankook batteries in both my road cars one an AGM the other a conventional calcium sealed type.

First question really is which starter motor are you using, standard type or the smaller gear reduction race type such as Brise/wasp etc?. the latter need much less current to spin an engine over and hence can use a smaller battery all other things being equal.

It is a Visteon starter so no gearing like a Brise.
Thanks for the link Britishtrident I will give them a try.

I only have a 40ah battery on a st220 engine v6 3.0, no problems what so ever but i do have a Brise geared starter on it. Whizzes it over when it's been left for several weeks at sub zero temp.

As Britishtrident said, go for the AGM type if you can.
