Hi All,
One for the electrical experts out there. I'm struggling to figure out my ignition wiring as it's all disconnected and isn't
labelled... This may all be a red herring if the switch is broken, however I have the following:
4 connections:
1. Thick Red = BAT
2. Thick Red = Fuse Box and Red/White = Seems to be Hazzard Switch
3. 2 X Purple/Black = 1 to coil and one to seems to be stalks..?
4. Green/Red = Starter Relay (via starter button) and Red/Black = Fuse box
Merit Malta Switch, which only switches on / off but has 4 terminals:
A. Bat
B. Always live
C. Switched
D. Seems to be nothing, maybe earth but never goes live?
Which order do I connect these up?
1A
2B
...?
Alternatively I also have a sierra switch and key, so could use this which has the traditional 3 clicks if this would be easier. I'll just join
the starter button wires together and lose this. I assume the order I number the connections matches the clicks on the sierra barrel. i.e. 2 is
accessories?

Going from your desciption,
-1 to A
-2 to B, basically all systems that need to be operable while keys are out the vehicle ie sidelamps, hazards, instrument illumination, brake
lights&horn(not required but often are wired this way).
-3 to C
Green/red to C if you have a relay driving the starter solenoid, if direct to starter would likely draw too much current for the ign switch rating
and would need separate feed.
Red/black to C
Your colours don't seem to match up with the lucas colours, i take it you have sierra stalks/lightswitches, and possibly a premier wiring loom
which someone here is likely to have a wiring diagram for.
A lot of earlier sylva cars (mine incuded) used mini wiring looms as they had mini columns and were simple to cut down, a sierra loom is massive in
comparison.
There may be a schematic for your switch on their website, i suspect terminal D is redundant for that model and is used on another model they sell as
it is probably cheaper than retooling for different models.

I suspect it's a premier loom. I have Escort Switches on a Sierra column as I didn't fancy being impaled by the Escort column 
. The
starter goes via a relay and no such luck on the ignition barrel website, but you suggestion sounds right to me.
I'll try your suggestions and see what happens, then convert it to the sierra barrel when I can source a suitable connector.
