Should the cooling fan be wired through a relay? If so should the relay go near the fan, with a long feed cable/short switch cables or is it better
to have the relay near the battery and have longer switching cables?
Also if I want to wire in a manual overide switch, can I wire it through the same relay or do I need a second one?
Hope that makes sense!
Nick
Part of the answer to your question can be found in the topic about 8 down the page... 'rad fan relay needed'...
It's a good idea to wire the relay to the permanently live side of the power as well, so that it can come on whether the ign switch is on or off.
This helps to cool the engine down when you park it.
Doesn't half make you jump though when you walk away and the fan suddenly starts to roar!

No - I don't mean that it should be wired to come on permanently - only that it CAN come on if the thermostatic switch decides it's
needed.
On my engine it will only come on for a couple of minutes, if needed when the engine's stopped.

Don't think anyone is recommending it's permanently on - just that power is provided regardless of the ignition switch(the relay will
switching it on/off in conjunction with the fan / override switch)
My misfortune was because I pressed the over-ride switch while waiting to board the ferry, and forgot it was on (Couldn't hear the fan over the
noise of the ferry).
