I'm about to order a fuel sender for my Indy, but can't make up my mind: should I go for the normal floating-thingy, or the tubular system (I don't know how it actually works, but an example of a very long version is showed below). Does anyone have any experience with those?

In price it doesn't really matter.

I have one like the picture in my tank and it works well. Makes baffling the tank easier too.

That looks like a capacitance type fuel sender.

How do you wire it up when the resistance that the gauge wants to see, is not corresponding with the resistance that the sender provides?
Can you fix that with resistors or something?

I suspect its a ressistance type --- as it moves up the float turns a sprial rod which works a quadrant rheostat at the top
