electrical feed to mechanical speedo?

I've got a mechanical speedo i want to use for my dash but i'd rather wire it up electrically ................... so...........

anyone know of something that will convert electrical pulses to a feed into a ford speedo?

(or where i can get a very cheep right angle gearbox speedo drive?)

Unfortunately not Mike! It would have to be a stepper motor of some sort, and that would buy you several electronic speedos!

Thought you were going the bike speedo route? (I am!!)

Alternatively, don't know how long it would last but what about this???

On the same topic-- I have a smiths mechanical speedo from an mgb donor I just got- anyone ever hooked one of these up to a t5 transmission--the T5 has both mechanical and electrical out- but I would need a 90 gear to hook it up I think.

Shouldn't be a problem what you will have to do is get the the turns per mile off the speedo To get the turns per mile look at the bottom of the dial in a very small font round the edge of the rim you will see a number normally between 900 and 1100 this is the calibration number of turns of the speedo caple for every mile of the (donor) car.

I know, i know......but i would like to have a nice set of gauges and my capri dash has everything....... plus it is easier to see approx speed from a dial than a readout....

and, and, and ..... i don't know...... i've got 3 sets of gauges excluding the bike speedo!!!!!!!

Seriously, with a little engineering that £7.50 90 degree screwdriver adaptor might just do the trick!

The tacho on the next dial IS driven electrically. If you ditch the speedo gubbins & screw in another tacho but keep the speedo face then you're starting to get somewhere.
Tacho can be driven via pulses, or you can scrap the tacho's PCB & the instrument part is just a moving coil meter (different construction toa classic mc meter but tht's deffinately what it is).
You lose the trip/odometer. Tough
